Pavement Treatment
Maintaining and Repairing Roads, Motorways, Airfield Runways etc can be a costly exercise. Left untreated a damaged surface can rapidly deteriorate undermining the structural stability of the surface. This can in turn lead to even more costly defects occurring as well as the safety hazard created by loose materials and uneven surfaces.
HMS Civils is able to offer a range of products and systems that offer a solution to the numerous problems faced by today's Maintenance Engineers in both Concrete and Bituminous surfaces.
Over recent years our range of repair products and systems have become the accepted method for the treatment of cracking, spalling, potholes, crazing and other forms of
surface deterioration. These solutions are long term and cost effective, ensuring that the Asset Owner gets value for money over the life time of the products and systems.
Concrete Surfaces
Concrete Surfaces traditionally suffer from problems such as joint degradation due to thermal expansion, cracking, spalling, surface erosion, potholing and kerb edge deterioration.
Left untreated these faults can lead to more severe and hence costly failures if water ingress erodes the structure and sub-base. Water trapped during the freeze thaw cycle during the winter months can rapidly accelerate the break up of the surface.
Additionally loose materials and fragments of concrete can become dangerous projectiles and pot holes can damage vehicles and cause accidents, especially with motorcycles. This can result in costly claims as well as hardship and suffering for those involved.
Bituminous Surfaces
Cracking and pot holing in bituminous surfaces whether initiated from the surface due to wear or the substrate due to movement will become an expensive maintenance issue if disregarded.
Left untreated these failures can result in degradation of the substrate and delamination of asphalt overlays. The expected life of these asphalt overlays will be cut short by isolated failures that will eventually result in extensive failure.
Common failure modes are cracked asphalts that overlay jointed concrete pavements. Systems have been designed to permanently seal these reflective cracks extending the serviceable life of the pavement.
